Stress Education and Stress Management Workshops

Stress Education and Management Workshops

Our Stress Education Programme will take you though the A-Z of stress and help you prevent illness; reduce work stress, burnout, absenteeism, presenteeism and psychosocial risks in the workplace. Our Stress Management Workshops get everyone involved with a hands on approach to individual stress and stress awareness including; personal stressors, the stress response, the brain-body connection, stress appraisal, stress recovery, acute and chronic stress, allostatic load, and stress resistance. We take a look at all of it in an effort to pass on important information that will enable us to prevent, reduce and mange stressors/stress responses better and improve the quality of our lives.

We create tailor made stress education programmes and stress management workshops for groups and one-on-one sessions. We educate, inform and guide management and staff through what they think stress is, what it actually is, how to recognise it and how to cope with it ; reduce, manage and control it in the workplace.

We Evaluate Results

You need to achieve a goal and we need to monitor our results. We evaluate the results of all our education and training programmes by following up with you and measuring the progress of your staff and the results of our programmes and workshops on your workplace performance.

Stress Education Programme For Everyone

Our stress education programme has four parts and can be taught over:

  • Two full days training for minimum 4 and maximum 12 per group.
  • Shortened one day training for minimum 4 and maximum 12 per group.
  • Four half days training for minimum 4 and maximum 12 per group.

We are willing to discuss any other training formats you may be interested in.

Part 1: Stress and Stress Awareness

This part of the programme is all about what you think stress is and what it actually is. The goal is to educate you about stress, assess personal stressors, make the language of stress easier for everyone, explain the brain-body connection of your stress response and  examine how this response affects your mental and physical health.

You will gain an understanding of your personal stressors, the signs and symptoms of being stressed, the different kind of stressors and what language should be used when trying to manage and control stressors. We will have a look at what we have in common with our ancestors and how we deal with these commonalities in our digital world today. We will examine the acute and chronic stress responses and talk about the three stages of stress; General Adaption Syndrome (Selye 1956). You will gain an understanding of how you appraise something as stressful and check out the brain-body connection in stress response activation. All this leads to an understanding of the stress hormones; what they do and how they can initiate and promote illness.

You get to adjust your thinking about what stress and your personal stressors, recognise what they are, where they  come from, how you are coping with them and what they are doing to your health. “It’s not the stressors in our environment that cause most of our problems; it’s the way we deal with them” (Lazarus 1984). This is an interactive programme with many opportunities to contribute and learn.

Part 2: The Stress – Illness Link

This part of the programme links stress to illness. We take a good look at how stress can initiate and promote illness. We talk about the links between acute and chronic stress and changes in physiology, psychology and biology; the brain-body connection. We examine how stress can change our behaviour. We have a look at Stress Reactivity; Stress Resistance, Stress Recovery, Allostatic Load (stress overload) and The Three Stages of Stress (GAS) (burnout).  This will start the conversation about coping strategies and how important social support is. This is a light and simple interactive programme with lots of opportunity to contribute and learn.

Part 3: Coping and Coping Strategies

This part of the programme is all about how we cope with the stressors in our lives and how to put the brakes on our stress response. What is coping? How do you cope? What is your coping style? What’s the difference between coping strategies and defence mechanisms? Most of us don’t know the answers to these questions; we generally only react to stressors without thinking of how we are reacting (coping). Knowing how you generally cope is a good start to improving your coping skills and recognising your defence mechanisms. How we cope is a direct link to the current state of our relationships and the current state of our physical and mental health and wellbeing. This is an interesting interactive programme with lots of opportunity to contribute and learn.

Part 4: Personal Stress Relief Techniques

In this part of the programme you get to look at your personal stress relief techniques; what you do to de-stress; habits and behaviours. We take a look at some common stress relief techniques and focus on what will and what won’t work for you. Just like all stressors are different for everyone, stress relief techniques are also different for everyone; one size does not fit all. We discuss developing your own personal stress relief techniques which will fit into your daily routine. We discuss lifestyle changes focused on keeping stress hormone levels balanced. What is important here is that you gain an understanding of what your daily de-stressing routine is; we all have one;  and how this routine may be hindering or helping your health and relationships. Some tweaks in your daily routine might be necessary for you to gain more control over your stressors and achieve more relief from them; an objective view may be necessary; we are more than happy to guide you through this process.

This Stress Education Programme aims to give an understanding of:

  • Stress and Stress Awareness
  • The Stress-Illness Link
  • Coping and Coping Strategies
  • Personal stress relief techniques.
